what I've been making & summer craft camp for adults
The last couple months have been absolutely bananas for me. Like when I look back at my calendar, I keep thinking "how did I get all of that done?" One of those things was that last month I was the 2-D art teacher for four classes of 5-10 year olds. For two weeks, I was with the kids from 8-4pm, making, making, making.
But when I was planning out what I would do with the kids, I bounced ideas off my mom (who used to teach kids!) and she said "I wish I could come take your summer camp."
BOOM. An idea. I (with very little effort) convinced my mom & dad to come up to Nashville to spend a week with me (between my two weeks of teaching) to have Adult Summer Camp. So for an entire week, my parents stayed in a camp ground really close to my house, and every day I would head over first thing and mom and I crafted all day. And then in the evenings, my dad & Bryan would craft with us too. All in all, one of the best weeks I can ever remember having.
So I thought it would be fun to show you a little bit of what we got up to and what we made. Sadly, we were having so much fun that I forgot to take many photos in the moment, but I hope we do this every year!
Some of my favorite parts:
Dad teaching me, Mom & Bryan how to make leather goodies. I made (with a lot of assistance from my Dad) two "cord-tacos" for my headphones and charging cables that I carry with me everywhere, and a leather clutch that dad & I spent hours figuring out the math and logistics (because we like to make things harder for ourselves and didn't want to use someone else's pattern).
Me trying out and absolutely loving weaving and then teaching my mom how to do it. And then teaching her how to make peg dolls (which I've made quite a few for her over the years for gifts.) I truly love being able to teach her things, because she's spent the last 25 years teaching me everything. So it feels really special to be able to show her something sometimes.
And then mom made ME a peg doll, which is pretty much the cutest thing I've ever seen and I simply die every time I look at it. :D
Bryan & my Dad making their leather bracelets & bonding = my poor little heart melting. Bryan secretly loves making things with his hands, & Dad definitely does and I love when the two most important men in my life do stuff together. No, I'm not crying. You're crying. Shut up.
We also drove like 45 minutes to an hour away to get Culver's. Which, when mom & I used to live in Wisconsin was like the BEST fast food chain ever. I'll spare you the details, but when we figured out that they finally were opening some down here in Tennessee, we may have freakkkked out. In our defense, it had been like well over 10-15 years for either of us since we'd had it. And yes, it was as good as we remembered. If you're lucky enough to have one close to you, please get yourself a chicken tenders basket or butter burger, a rootbeer (they make their own) and a custard for me. BUT ANYWAY, we just sat outside, ate, laughed and had a lovely evening eating goofy fast food ;)
And then basically just getting to spend time with my parents is always a good time in my book and I hope that we get to do Adult Summer Camp every year from now on.
What about you? Have you done something that was just all around a good time & made you super happy lately? If not, what would your ideal Thing be?
